Highsnobiety

The Drip is Highsnobiety’s latest series, taking a deep-dive look at celebrities and their jawnz. Every other day, we highlight a notable figure from our world and run the rule over whether their outfit is a hit or miss. Do you agree or disagree with our appraisal? Let us know below.

Who: Kanye West

The outfit he’s wearing: YEEZY T-shirt and jewelry, paint-splattered jeans (no ID), and YEEZY Season 6 "Desert Rat" boots.

Location: Los Angeles

Why it works: Paint-splattered jeans are a statement piece, which is why Kanye has wisely chosen to dial things back with a loose-fitting YEEZY dad tee and taupe combat boots.

Editor’s Notes: ’Ye digs paint-splattered jeans. In fact, he digs anything with paint splatter, as his memorable Yeezus tour merch attests. This time last year, the rapper — sorry, recording artist — would rarely be seen in anything other than his beloved archival Helmut Lang Painter jeans, their loose fit diametrically opposed to the skinny A.P.C. cuts he once favored what feels like a lifetime ago.

Now, it looks like West has taken his love for paint splatter to the next level, after being spotted out with wife Kim Kardashian in what we suspect is either a DIY pair or something special lifted from another luxury archive, possibly Margiela's. Unlike the Helmut Lang pair, which featured subtle white paint dabs on the right leg, this pair goes all in with a Pollockian blitzkrieg of color strewn across both legs.

If you're not up for customizing your own pair, there are plenty of other paint-splattered options out there. OFF-WHITE's Carpenter paint-smudge jeans are exceptionally similar to the ones worn by West (but come with a loaded price tag), while vintage pairs often crop up on sites like Grailed.
