The Drip is Highsnobiety’s latest series, taking a deep-dive look at celebrities and their jawnz. Every other day, we highlight a notable figure from our world and run the rule over whether their outfit is a hit or miss. Do you agree or disagree with our appraisal? Let us know below.

Who: Chadwick Boseman

The outfit he’s wearing: Boseman wears all Louis Vuitton by the label’s new men’s artistic director, Virgil Abloh.

Location: the 2018 ESPYS

Why it works: The reasons are two-fold: 1. Chadwick Boseman is inherently cool as fuck and one of the few celebrities who can nail all-white on the red carpet (for further proof, see his Versace getup — complete with cape — at this year’s Met Gala); and 2. Virgil’s debut collection is, undeniably, very good.

Editor’s Notes: A month on from Virgil Abloh’s inaugural Louis Vuitton show at Paris Fashion Week, Chadwick Boseman is the first superstar celebrity to flex the garb publicly.

The summer-appropriate suit is cut slim and contours perfectly with Boseman’s lithe physique. Rather than go down the formal route — as the likes of Timothéee Chalamet have done with great success — the Black Panther star channels a street sensibility, opting for a white T-shirt, sneakers, and the pièce de résistance: the harness.

There’s been a buzz around the harness ever since the Vuitton show, with Abloh stoking the hype further by stepping out in black and neon orange versions over the course of PFW weekend. And then, earlier this month, Abloh’s close friend Luka Sabbat wore a piece adorned with flowers to the Vogue Paris Foundation gala.

Abloh has coined the term “accessomorphosis” to describe the fusion of apparel and accessories, with the harness being a prime example of this methodology. Not only does it look dope, but it’s practical, too, almost like an elevated interpretation of the shoulder bag. In the LV show notes, Abloh described the piece below as a “fluorescent yellow leather side bib with pocket.”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Boseman’s stylist Ashley Weston said, “When we saw the presentation in Paris in June, it was incredible. All the cream and off-white looks in the beginning were especially stunning.

“We wanted to wear every single look and thought it would be perfect for this moment if we could get our hands on some pieces. So we were really happy to be able to get one of our favorites — a beautiful, all-white suited look with a cream-colored leather harness worn on top. We paired it with thick-soled, white-and-cream Louis Vuitton sneakers with gold hardware detail.”
