Legendary street artist KAWS recently unveiled a new sculpture outside Detroit's Library Street Collective museum. The 17-foot piece, titled WAITING, is a continuation of the artist's "Companion" figures, and depicts "a parent and child in a moment of pause," according to Library's press release. The piece was originally cast in bronze, before being given a jet-black patina finish.

KAWS will be hosting a public viewing of WAITING on Tuesday, May 22, from 18:00-20:00.

Be sure to visit the Library Street Collective should you find yourself in Detroit.

Born Brian Donnelly, KAWS is one of the most recognized figures of the street art movement, and his signature "Companion" pieces have appeared as enormous sculptures, flat artworks and miniature toys over the course of his decades-long career.

In 2013, he reimagined the MTV "Moonman" for the 2013 VMA Awards, and in 2014 his art was used on the packaging for Pharrell and COMME des GARCONS' "GIRL" fragrance. Last year, he collaborated with Nike on a special-edition Air Jordan IV sneaker.
