Luca Guadagnino, director of Call Me By Your Name, has cast Kid Cudi and Chloe Sevigny in his highly anticipated new HBO series titled, We Are Who We Are.

The eight-part HBO-Sky original is slated to begin shooting this month and will also star Alice Braga, Jack Dylan Grazer and Tom Mercier. The plot concentrates on a group of American teenagers living on a U.S. military base in Italy. HBO is billing the series as a coming-of-age story about “friendship, first love and all the unknowns of being a teenager.” Back in May, the visionary director told Variety that the two lead characters “become close amid their posse of teenage friends, who think they’re a couple. But Fraser is experiencing confusing feelings about his identity and develops an innocent romantic connection with an older soldier.”

According to HBO, the plot itself “could happen anywhere, but in this case, happens to be in this little slice of America in Italy.” Guadagnino, who will be both director and showrunner, has previously used picturesque Italian backdrops as the location for Call Me By Your Name, A Bigger Splash and I Am Love.
