WhoLakeith Stanfield,

Where: The Oscars, Los Angeles

Editor's notes: Ahead of Sunday's Oscars ceremony, the Academy sent out its dress code, warning attendees, “Formal is totally cool if you want to go there, but casual is really not.” “We’re aiming for a fusion of Inspirational and Aspirational,” it read, and nobody nailed the assignment quite like Lakeith Stanfield.

We know the Judas and the Black Messiah actor does NOT play with his style when it comes to his on-screen wardrobe, but there was something undeniably playful about his wide lapel, YSL jumpsuit. Adapted from Anthony Vaccarello’s Spring 2021 women’s collection, the cinched, '70s-inspired one-piece communicated camp and confidence, with an old school glamour.

Genderfluid runway looks have inspired an explosion of voluminous, lacey material in menswear. But with a subtle inversion of Saint Lauren's “Le Smoking Jacket,“ Stanfield proves that an androgynous silhouette can be far more provocative yet effortlessly cool — and the internet is feeling his “lookin like your uncle” energy.

Stanfield added to the sleazy/sexy, retro aesthetic with a chunky, chainlink necklace, a black belt with a circular gold buckle, and orange-tinted, square-framed glasses. Bringing the look back to the present day, the actor debuted a newly lightened, auburn hairstyle and a diamond-encrusted watch. Take an up-close look below.
