First unveiled at Paris Fashion Week FW20 in January, Lanvin’s Curb sneaker is finally hitting stores. The sneaker channels a very obvious ’00s-inspired design, described by Highsnobiety in January as a “high-end reinterpretation of mid-’00s skate shoes, more specifically the Osiris D3.”

To mark the sneaker’s release, Lanvin tapped both Evan Mock and photographer RAYSCORRUPTEDMIND to create a special video editorial featuring the Curb sneaker. The duo acted as co-creative directors on the project, which you can exclusively watch above.

Speaking to Highsnobiety about luxury fashion’s adoption of mid-’00s skate aesthetic, Mock says: “I think history repeats itself and people are going to have different takes on what they think is cool. When I saw this shoe I immediately thought of the Osiris shoes I loved from 2000. I’m not surprised people are inspired by skate culture as that is what has inspired me my whole life.”

Ray agrees, adding: “For years skate culture influenced almost everybody, so it’s sick that it’s getting more light in fashion.”

As for the vibe of the short film, Ray and Mock both agree that they were just trying to have fun and be real. “I feel it’s super important when people can relate to you because then the people watching feel like they’re a part of it,” explains Ray.

Lanvin's creative director Bruno Sialelli explained that each of his collections focuses on a specific character and that the clothes serve to dress that character for the life he imagines. “For the fall 20 collection, I had in mind the skateboarders as documented by Hugh Holland: free-wheeling dudes with their sun-scorched hair, sharks teeth around their necks, hanging out on beaches around the world. Those sneakers were, to me, the most immediate yet relevant pieces to represent and understand those characters, in the right way.”

The question on everyone’s minds, though, is how a nearly $1,000 luxury shoe made to look like a skateboarding shoe actually skates. “They’re big and bad like the Big Bad Wolf,” says Mock, while Ray highlights the sneaker’s durability: “They definitely feel like an old school skate shoe, and since they’re bulky they will last forever.”

The Lanvin Curb sneaker will be available online and in Lanvin stores this week for $890.
