Where the runway meets the street

Last month, we partnered up with Barneys on thedrop@barneys, a two-day shopping event that saw the release of 30 exclusive capsule collections from labels like OFF-WHITE, 424, FEAR OF GOD, and more. Shoppers, streetwear fans, and many designers were all in attendance creating a social hub that blurred the lines of streetwear culture and the high-end retail marketplace into one. During the event, Highsnobiety’s Jeff Carvalho and Barneys’ Jackie Kim sat down with many designers for exclusive interviews about thedrop, their collections, and the current state of streetwear.

Mike Amiri was one of the many designers who made their way to the Barneys flagship store in NYC showing off his new thedrop-exclusive collection from his namesake brand. We caught up with Amiri to define what “streetwear” means to him, the design process behind his popular jeans, and his strong relationship with Barneys. Check out the full interview in the video above.

Other designers also made appearances including Greg Lauren, Virgil Abloh, Guillermo Andrade, and Heron Preston, offering exclusive, sit down interviews and activations to give shoppers a chance to interact with their favorite people in fashion and culture.
