RIMOWA and Mykita make it really hard to argue against the notion of "German engineering" as a sort of aesthetic ideal. For as long as these companies have existed — over 100 years and about 22 years, respectively — they've put forth bulletproof products anchored by innovations of their own design. In RIMOWA's case, it's a perfect aluminum suitcase and for Mykita, it's hinged glasses balanced by sturdy but light frames.

Their collaborative eyewear is, naturally, a little bit of both. Just without suitcases. And now, for the first time since their release in 2024, RIMOWA's Mykita sunglasses are back. In black, no less.

RIMOWA and Mykita originally put forth a handful of classic (and some not so classic) shapes for the sake of making beautiful all-purpose eyewear as reliable as RIMOWA luggage.

The only wrinkle here is that the German-made aluminum shades are realized in stealth mode.

Originally, the Mykita shades were produced in rose gold and RIMOWA's signature silver, occasionally accented with black, but the collaborative sunglasses' new edition is dressed in black from toe to tip.

This was appropriate given the collaborative glasses' stealth release in early October 2025, when they hit RIMOWA's website. But finally, in January, they've made their presence known.

Even more than their predecessors, the beauty of the single-tone shades is in how they highlight Mykita's essentialist forms: giant shield sunnies, staple round-eyed fellows, squared off silhouettes that're almost universally flattering.

RIMOWA's favorite material vanishes into the inky depths, leaving nothing but a classically classic shape to appreciate. Bereft of overt branding, the core qualities come to the fore, and there you have eyewear all but perfected. German engineering, indeed.
