For as big and bold as Vans likes to play it, the skate house is ridiculously good at simple black sneakers.

Add Japanese streetwear brand Neighborhood to the mix, and you get a delectably dark Authentic 44 sneaker that's betting it all on black to astounding results. Though, you can't really go wrong with a black sneaker, so it's hardly a gamble on Vans' end.

And even though suede doesn't really shine, Vans still found a way to make the soft sneaker sparkle.

Instead of traditional textiles like canvas or classic leather, Vans dressed this collaborative Authentic 44 with soft suede, which adds some textural intrigue that's only heightened by Neighborhood's engraved branding at the toe, giving the otherwise simple sneaker a subtle layer of luxury.

In addition to the all-black colorway, Vans is also dropping an all-white version as well. Both colorways will be available on the Vans website for $120 on August 7.

Now obviously Vans knows how to turn its classic thrashers into little vessels of footwear luxury.

Just take a look at any number of Chanel-inspired stunners Vans has released in recent years. Even beyond the iconic Chanel Graffiti-inspired sneakers, Vans has also dabbled in some indisputably classy tweed iterations as well.

While those displays of luxury are a bit more in your face, Vans' Neighborhood collab trends more toward the quiet luxury of it all, which is cooler than it sounds. At least when Vans does it.
