Nike's New Super Chunky Air Max Shoes Are True Big Steppers
Many great shoes hail from Nike's Air Max sneaker series, like the Air Max 1 and the Air Max 95, worn by us average folk and A-listers alike. As good as the line is, it only gets bigger each year as Nike brings new shoe styles into the family.
Nike debuts the Air Max Portal, only mere weeks after introducing the world to the Air Max Dn, another new Air Max sneaker dropping later this year.
Sounds futuristic. Luckily, the Air Max Portal looks the part, too.
Nike's new Air Max Portal is basically like a beefier version of the next-level Air Max Dn shoe (some sneakerheads have even called it a "better Dn" when discussing the Portal online).
Unlike the recent Air Max revision, though, the Portal sneaker is seemingly built around Nike's classic Air technology rather than the fresh pump of Dynamic Air that fuels the Dn's sole.
At the same time, Nike's stocky new Air Max shoes also resemble several established Air Max sneaker designs.
The Portal's mesh rippled uppers take me back to the Nike Air Max 97, for instance, while the overall beefy shape feels very in line with the Air Max Sunder (but with laces, of course).
But that's pretty much Nike's thing: looking to its own past, present, and future for the next big innovative footwear design, combining all the best parts into a single striking sneaker.
As such, the Nike Air Max Portal shoe is a chunky beauty. The tastefully big sneaker will first drop in a bevy of solid-toned colors, including blue, mauve, white, neon green, black, and red.
Nike will be a little preoccupied with Paris Olympic duties over the summer, but the Swoosh is expected to give its new chunked-up Air Max shoes a fall season release date.
