Your Bike Deserves a Great PORTER Bag, Too
You just know an unaccessorized bike just hates to see PORTER comin’. The Japanese heritage brand is no stranger to cycling gear, thanks to its seven-year-strong collaboration with Copenhagen’s most fashionable biker brand, Pas Normal Studios. But the duo’s latest release feels like a step up from the normal (albeit incredibly well-crafted) backpacks and messenger bags that we’re used to seeing.
The sixth Pas x PORTER collection still has bags for real human bodies, to be clear, but this iteration also extends the on-bike offerings beyond the strappy saddle bag.
There are now also bags for the frame and the handlebars — effectively turning any ole two-wheeler into a steezy, Japanese-inflected whip. After five solid collabs, this feels like the next logical step toward turning the actual cycle into the next best way to signal you know your shit. (Or, at the very least, know that PORTER is a military-grade bag GOAT.)
The release is a fitting cap on a particularly cycle-centric summer at PORTER. It released a four-piece collection with Canadian menswear label JJJJound in July, a first-ever linkup that included a great ripstop nylon city bag. And if that connection feels familiar, it should. JJJJound’s first real dip into cycling gear arrived last year with none other than Pas Normal Studios.
Call it the byproduct of very productive business card swapping, if you will, but these brands all get that bike apparel isn’t just for gearheads anymore. Pas staked a foothold in the market by turning cycling into something fashionable, while JJJJound is just fashionable full-stop. With PORTER now doing collabs with both brands, it's clear the old, storied Japanese bagmaker is plenty comfortable in the bike lane.
