Highsnobiety

Got band practice at 6 and wrestling at 7? PUMA and Noah have just the thing. Back for the fourth installment of a much-loved collab, their new drop is—as we’ve come to expect—perfect for the preppy athlete. But this isn’t the playful, outdoorsy world of their first campaigns, nor the surprising venture into high-end suiting we saw last season. No, for 2024 we’re back to something more classic, more moody, and more nostalgic.

In dimly lit locker rooms and deserted sports halls, wistful-looking athletes are chilling out off duty. With trackies tucked in socks, shorts over trackies, and wraparound laces galore, the sepia-tinted campaign lends sweaty, extracurricular energy to a sleek and sporty collection.

A standout piece here is the wrestling boot, the latest update to a style that originated in the 60s with the PUMA Gong. White and grey with gold touches, this new version cashes in on something akin to the ‘blokette’ trend, vaguely threatening physical combat but in fact delivering something a little more… dainty.

The models may be wrestlers, but these are no Netflix Original-style jocks. With their sketch pads, dog-eared literature, and well-used drumsticks, think more angsty indie kid than an all-American football player. Take the white dungarees, for example: style them with a copy of The Catcher in the Rye, pop in a pair of wired headphones, and you’re away.

Elsewhere in the collection, there are further vintage touches. Retro-colored stripes adorn the merino wool cycling cap and blue baby tee; a sherpa-lined jacket cuts a classic boxy shape; the Arizona sneaker comes in a cool, blue suede. The latter also features a gum sole and a chunky, folded tongue (very in, if you hadn’t heard). Perhaps the navy duffel bag might come closest to looking at home in a frat house, but pair it with the graphic hoodie and you’ve got your hint of grunge back. These are all you need to be comfy, sporty, and just a little bit edgy—time to release your inner athlete and get the style to go with.
