Season: Spring/Summer 2019
Key Pieces: For its collaboration with sacai, Pendleton’s South West American blankets have been masterfully recast onto jackets, trousers, skirts, pullovers, skirts, socks, bags, and shoes. The dual trouser and button-up T-shirt ensemble, seen in the first slide above, is a prime example. For Dr. Woo’s collaborative pieces below, we see the tattooist’s impeccable line-work translated onto attire. This is most effectively realized in the yellow bolero which distills Abe’s “seasonless” vision for the collection.

Editor’s Notes: The internet has been abuzz with sacai leaks this week – verified and unverified. Today we can confirm with complete authority that the Japanese luxury label has dropped not one, but two new collaborations.
The first being with Dr. Woo, who is recognized for his signature, fine-lined works of art, and personal style, focusing on the creatures of earth and organic themes. sacai has applied these design elements onto various garments in a way that melds with the fabric organically. Patterns ranging from eagles, spiders, barbed wire, and flowers, are delicately expressed with embroidery on men’s and women’s jackets, knits, denim, and small accessories. Dr. Woo states, “Working with sacai was a dream because the trust was so fluid and working with such a legendary brand… you just know the execution will do your art justice.”
Next to Dr. Woo, sacai has teamed up with American wool brand, Pendleton. Founder Chitose Abe, focused on “seasonlessness” by incorporating autumnal and hibernal elements into the spring and summer collection. Abe has invoked the American West, drawing on Pendleton’s classic graphic patterns which are accented with sacai’s summer tweeds and grosgrain trimming details. The collaborative items encompass jackets, trousers, skirts, pullovers, skirts, socks, and bags.
