After more than 25 years in the footwear industry, David Tourniaire-Beauciel has worked behind-the-scenes at several of the most influential fashion brands in the world, and last week, pulled back the curtain on his very own brand, called Shoes 53045

Tourniaire-Beauciel's interest in footwear is thanks to his father, who worked as a technician in a shoe factory in France. Later in life, his first break into the industry was offered to him by none other than Jean Paul Gaultier, and subsequently, Tourniaire-Beauciel went on to collaborate with pioneers like Phoebe Philo, Riccardo Tisci, Martin Margiela, Salvatore Ferragamo, and recently Demna Gvasalia. Today, he's also acting creative director at CLERGERIE.

While working for Balenciaga, he worked alongside Gvasalia to co-create the Triple S sneaker, which was designed with molds taken from running, basketball and track shoes, and described by Balenciaga as “high-fashion spec.”

Shoes 53045 (which spells “shoes” upside down) describes their signature Bump'Air shoe as like "walking on floaty boats, or dancing on the moon." The new sneaker features an exaggerated platform sole, and comes with two different insoles for an adjustable fit, while four different colorways - "Black," "White," "Flame," and "Ice," - of the Bump'Air shoe have been proffered thus far. Additionally, the shoes are entirely vegan, "because we love animals," Tourniaire-Beauciel notes.

We met with David Tourniaire-Beauciel in Florence as part of a From The Ground Up special report to learn more about Shoes 53045.

Priced at $400 USD, the Shoes 53045 Bump'Air is available for pre-order in all four colorways via shoes53045.com.
