When New Balance brought back its 550 last year, the archival silhouette was an unexpected hit. Launched initially as part of Aimé Leon Dore’s FW20 collection, the archival performance basketball sneaker was immediately plastered all over Instagram. It’s not an understatement to say you couldn’t scroll through your feed without seeing the 550 on it.

Now Size? buyer Luke Matthews has shared a look at an exclusive colorway of the 550, which will be part of the retailer’s SS21 roll out. The colorway, which will only be available through Size?, features the retailer’s signature orange hue on the “N” logo, tongue, heel, and parts of the mid- and outsoles. A vintage-looking cream/white base underpins the vintage aesthetic.

No word yet on when the sneaker will be released, though Size? has it loaded in its SS21 Previews section on its Launches app. It’s likely to be released at some point in the coming months.

Considering New Balance’s dominant running heritage, it was a surprise to see a basketball shoe make such waves. The sneaker’s popularity further underlined New Balance’s winning collaboration strategy, which looks certain to continue into 2021 — starting with this Size? x New Balance 550.

Stay tuned for more information as we get it. In the meantime, check out the sneaker (alongside a Size? exclusive 574) above.
