Things are heating up at Sony after the company was forced to respond to fan anger at the lack of Fortnite cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, as revealed at this year's E3 gaming expo.

With players who've created a Fornite account on their PS4 unable to continue play on the Switch version of the game, they'll have to open a brand new account and start from scratch. That means losing outfits, rewards, and in-game purchases, too. There is no such restriction on players moving between Xbox One and Switch, a fact that has stoked anger further.

In response, Sony issued a statement to the BBC: "We're always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience. With […] more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we've built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles.

"We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms."

Consumers, however, are unimpressed. Here are just a few of the user responses directed at Sony.
