Not only does a film’s credit sequence inform the viewer, but it also sets the tone and overall mood for the picture at hand. Here, we in turn take a look at the history of the movie title sequence, including how it has evolved with business of filmmaking over the past century.
Courtesy of John Hess from filmmakeriq.com, the lesson begins way back in 1895 with Auguste and Louis Lumière, who are recognized as being among the first filmmakers in history. Then, however, no credits or titles were included, as the movie just began. Following in 1900, we got our first look at a title card.
