This Running Gear Is Made to Survive the Hottest Place on Earth
2XU and District Vision’s new capsule collection comes with a very challenging brief: survive the world’s toughest foot race.
The Badwater 135, a race beginning in California’s Death Valley (officially the hottest place on Earth) and ending at the Mount Whitney trailhead, sees runners battle against extreme weather conditions with temperatures reaching 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
A two-time Badwater winner, Harvey Lewis made his 13th consecutive appearance at the race earlier this week and 2XU, the global leader in compression apparel, together with Los Angeles-based running label District Vision created high-performing gear to help get him across the finish line.
The collection features three full running outfits comprised of nine new pieces of men’s apparel from 2XU and rimless blade-style proprietary sunglasses courtesy of District Vision.
Naturally, the materials used on all of these pieces are the best-in-class including ultralight Payen Run four-way stretch fabric and HeiQ Smart Temp technology which activates and deactivates its enhanced cooling system depending on the wearer’s body temperature. However, it isn’t only focused on function: this running gear is also stylish.
The Desert Runner Singlet, for example, comes with a print from artist Filip Pagowski which matches the orange accents on the Compression Arm Guards. Together, they make for a great-looking set.
District Vision, a label that has a track record of making running gear fashionable, adds to the release with its wild Titanium Shield Sunglasses.
The sunglasses retail for a hefty $649.99 (aerospace-grade titanium doesn’t come cheap) and are available on District Vision’s website alongside the rest of the collection where prices range from $69.99 to $499.99.
Running in the summer can be hard work but when you have cutting-edge gear that has survived the hottest place on earth, there are no excuses to skip a cardio session.
