This Grandpa Chic adidas Sneaker Is Looking Dapper as Hell
It’s fair to assume, Grandpa’s would absolutely rock these. The houndstooth alone gives them away, but throw in the brown-and-beige color palette and classic gum sole and the whole thing starts to feel like a very well-dressed 70s wardrobe made its way onto a rather chic sneaker.
The adidas Italia 70s is already a throwback by name and silhouette, with its low profile and retro football-inspired shape. This version, though, leans much harder into the vintage old-school side of things thanks to that patterned upper.
It’s a rather dapper change from the endless stream of suede runners and gorpy tech sneakers as of late. Houndstooth makes the Italia 70s feel a little more dressed up, while the classic adidas shape stops it from becoming too formal.
There’s something particularly good about that balance, especially when so many retro sneakers are going in the opposite direction. This is the kind of sneaker that holds its own against a pair of smart, relaxed pants and a decent white tee.
