adidas Put a Jersey on Its Chicest Non-Football Football Sneaker
Mexico's football jersey is so fly, adidas had to put it on feet. The adidas Mexicana is essentially a sneaker version of adidas' extolled Mexico football jersey, and nary a detail was spared.
From top to bottom, the Mexicana is dripped in the Mexico jersey's signature green Aztec print with a red heel tab and a white Three Stripes.
Funny enough, though, the adidas Mexicana shoe was never designed to be a football sneaker. First released in 1970, following the 1968 Mexico Olympics, the Mexicana was originally released as a multi-purpose trainer designed for running and casual wear.
But to see it in this new jersey-inspired light, it's hard to picture the sneaker in any other context.
Throughout the years, the adidas Mexicana, available on the adidas website for $150, has lived many lives, existing as one of the many Samba-adjacent adidas sneakers out there, and honestly, this is a pretty sweet spot to be in.
As a Samba-adjacent sneaker, the Mexican benefits from flat-shoe favoritism but doesn't have to worry about Samba fatigue cramping its style because, well, it's not one. Truly the best of both worlds. Then put a legendary jersey on it, and you get one of the sharpest-looking non-football, football sneakers out there.
