We've seen all sorts of ballet sneakers, many of which feature dainty colorways paired with ribbons and lace. But Stella McCartney's ballerina sneaker doesn't want to be cute.

It's weird (in a good way).

Stella McCartney's adidas Sportswear X Trainer is a ballet sneaker that took the utilitarian route while still looking good.

It's layered in different kinds of mesh for peak airflow. At the same time, it also features uniquely molded rubber soles that are designed to provide excellent grip on various surfaces.

The Sportswear X Trainer features strap-in closures, giving the shoe a sort of Mary Jane vibe, but in a very Stella x adidas way.

Speaking of doing things in Stella McCartney fashion, the collaborative adidas model is, of course, made with vegan materials, staying true to the brand's eco-friendly designs.

Again, there have been several cutesy efforts. But the ballet sneaker craze has also delivered its fair share of unusually cool hybrids, like Miaou's ballerina boot and Crocs' trail-ready Mary Janes.

Nike also brought back everyone's favorite weird-girl shoe, the Air Rift (Stella's pairs kind of remind me of them).

Essentially, Stella McCartney's adidas ballerina shoe arrives at the perfect time for this next phase of the trend.

For those looking to cop the SMC pairs, the Sportswear X Trainer is now available in black on adidas' website for $180.
