BMW has unveiled their very own segway, dubbed the Personal Mover Concept, an electric one-person means of transport for covering short distances within an operating site, reports BMW Blog.

Employees at various BMW Group plants in Germany sometimes cover up to 3.7 miles per day on foot, and some of those employees carry small parts and work materials. The company recognized this issue, and before creating its own personal mobility concept, BMW said it conducted research into existing options, but failed to reach a satisfactory solution.

With the Personal Mover Concept, the electric scooter measures about 23 inches wide, and 31 inches long, allowing a person to stand on the platform, while leaving room for larger, heavier objects. There are two wheels at the rear corners, along with two support wheels at the front, while the two front wheels also rotate 360 degrees, helping increase maneuverability.

The handlebar on the Personal Mover Concept contains the entire electrical system, the battery, and the drive wheel, and it can also be rotated 90 degrees to the left and right, while a thumb throttle for regulating speed is implemented into the right grip.

Capable of reaching up to 15 mph, with a range of about 12 to 18 miles before needing another charge, BMW says it's had initial discussions with operators of airports, exhibition centers, and major shopping centers on the possibility of using the Personal Mover at those locations.
