Japanese Grannies Turn Rare Jordans Into One-off Handstitched Treasures
What happens when skilled Japanese grannies get their hands on an Air Jordan grail? We get a beautiful sashiko colette Jordan 1.
The Sashiko Gals redesigned the colette sneaker, covering it with colorful stitching and ultimately giving it a new life.
Again, colette's sneaker was already super-duper exclusive. It was a Friends & Family shoe designed to mark colette's closing in 2017. And according to the streets, only 213 pairs were produced. There's been a few giveaways and even auctions for them, but the colette Jordan 1s never received a public release.
Sashiko Gals made them even rarer with this one-off spin, made specifically for colette founder Sarah Andelman.
The Japanese collective, made up of 15 women between the ages of 40 and 80, continues to bring the longtime Japanese craft to the world's most recognizable sneaker and fashion silhouettes. They've made fancy Veja sneakers, stitched up a handful of New Balances, and even designed admittedly cool custom Nikes for Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Of course, these handstiched colette Jordan 1s aren't for sale (remember: only Andelman has them!). But it's always nice to see a new Sashiko Gals banger on the feed.
