Dior's luxury leather goods are made entirely by hand, a reflection of the fashion house's commitment to painstaking perfection. But its new men's pieces were also sculpted in part by nature itself, inspiring the name of the collection.

Specifically, the Dior Gravity line derives its moniker from the craft necessary to imprint a pattern upon Dior's precious leather accessories.

To create the distinct Oblique monogram that wraps the buttery hides of each Dior Gravity item, the house's artisans established a new technique that utilizes gravity and the innate weight of the craftsman's tool to literally press the shape into place.

And so, there you have it: Gravity, the Dior way.

This is a different form of embossing, one not derived from stamping, carving, or any other human force.

And because Dior Gravity shapes a material, as opposed to a specific shape, its product line is impressively expansive even though it's only just now launching as part of the Fall 2024 line on Dior's website and at its retail stores.

Key to the inaugural Dior Gravity offering are the Weekender 25 ($3,000) and Weekender 40 ($4,000) bags, tangible manifestations of the contemporary Dior man and worthy canvases for the intricate new finish.

They're sleek and supple, the result of a hand-shaped production process that demands hours of work from skilled artisans, but inarguably tailored to utilitarian needs.

These are, as Dior describes them in a press release, "objects of desire," but also truly useful objects, too.

Note that Dior Gravity isn't itself a new pattern but a new application of the inimitable Dior Oblique that has dressed the house's goods for generations.

It's also hardly the sole new style of Dior branding to emerge during Dior Homme creative director Kim Jones' tenure but it is a rare material innovation, made distinct by technique and recognizable by heritage.
