Idris Elba has been tapped to star in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Hollywood Reporter reports. In addition to carrying the leading role, Elba will also direct and produce the picture under his Green Door production outfit. He will be producing original music for the film as well.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame, an 1831 novel by Victor Hugo, tells the story of Quasimodo, a hunchback, who falls in love with a gypsy, Esmeralda. Elba will in turn portray the hunchback, while casting for Esmeralda has yet to be revealed.

Alongside Idris and Green Door's Ana Garanito, Fred Berger (La La Land) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Midnight Special) will serve as producers, while Michael Mitnick (The Current War, The Giver) has been tasked to handle the script.

This isn't Elba's first time directing, however. Earlier this year he made his directorial debut with crime film, Yardie.
