Whenever summer rolls around, anyone who's invested in their wardrobe will quite literally break a sweat over what to wear that doesn't make them (A) even sweatier and (B) look boring.

To alleviate those out there who identify with the above, MR PORTER and I have compiled a guide of summer basics that aren't actually that basic. Instead, these are pieces that'll be as easy to style as they are interesting to view.

Linens, laces, and denim add texture, color, and attitude to any warm-weather getup, without who's dressed in them running the risk of overheating or underperforming.

Sun coverage begins with a proper SPF in the morning, and ends with a shielding headpiece...

Cutler and Gross Sunnies

... and matching eyewear, of course.

Corridor Lace Shirt

CorridorCamp-Collar Cotton and Nylon-Blend Lace Shirt
$225

This breezy button up is a great example of how to put lace to use in men's clothing, for a top that is outside-of-the-box but nowhere near difficult to incorporate into one's seasonal everyday rotation.

Lemaire Oversized Denim Shirt

Similarly, this light, earthy denim wash will put to shame whoever made the claim that beige was boring. It's not the color, but the canvas or what it's combined with that'll dull it down. Lemaire would know nothing about this though.

Orlebar Brown Camp Collar Shirt

Orlebar BrownHibbert Camp-Collar Striped Lyocell Shirt
$445
Buy at Mr Porter

Even something as eccentric as a green short sleeve can function in a multitude of settings: beneath a blazer, for a cooler formal look if need be, or as a cover up over a tank for more leisurely strolls down side- or boardwalks.

Kartik Research Embroidered Shorts

Kartik ResearchStraight-Leg Pleated Embroidered Linen Shorts
$440
Buy at Mr Porter

Shorts are a contentious topic, with ongoing debates over when they're too short or too long. They've also done away with their reputation of being too casual, what with pleated, workwear, and even embroidered versions like this one available today.

LOEWE Paula's Ibiza Printed Silk Shorts

Loewe + Paula's IbizaStraight-Leg Printed Silk Drawstring Shorts
$1,600
Buy at Mr Porter

Not to mention the fun that can be had with an airy, graphic printed bottom half of a holiday or hot day's 'fit.

Mr. P Linen Shorts

And for a 360 foolproof's version, stick to something as classic as a creamy linen.

Castañer Espadrilles

Unless we just go for a straight up flip flop, the summeriest shoe of them all would probably be an Espadrille. But if you do 'em, do 'em right.

Polo Ralph Lauren Suede Sneakers

Suede's been on an absolute roll lately, as has everything Polo Ralph Lauren. Put your hands together then, I say.
