Editor’s Notes: This Nike Air Jordan 1, dubbed “Defiant,” is a nod to the silhouette’s reputation as a go-to sneaker for rockstars back in the ’80s and ’90s. Much like it transcended basketball to become a mainstay in skate culture, the Air Jordan 1 was often seen on the feet of the likes of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Flea and Anthony Kiedis, Dave Mustaine, and Slash to name a few. The red Swoosh on the lateral side is a nod to the leather jacket’s red stitching details and removable patches, while the contrasting yellow Swoosh is a nod to ’80s album colors.
