Editor’s Notes: Today Highsnobiety exclusively unveils the Reebok Instapump Fury Prototype, a 1:1 remake of the original Instapump Fury OG, which debuted in 1994.
This re-release was designed by the Reebok Advanced Concepts (RAC) team, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in footwear. It stays true to the original release, which was designed by renowned sneaker designer Steven Smith. Following its debut in 1994, the Instapump Fury has become a staple in many a sneakerhead’s rotations.
Speaking to Highsnobiety, Reebok shared some insights into the design process and how the team stayed true to the original design: “We worked with the Reebok Archive to ensure that the 1:1 remake was an exact replica of the original Prototype released in March 1994. While our manufacturing processes have obviously improved and modernized over the past 25 years, we did everything possible to maintain the design credibility of the original Prototype.”
Interestingly, the Instapump Fury initially released in March 1994 but due to the citron rubber outsoles degrading after light use, an improved version was dropped in September 1994 with a more durable carbon-infused black rubber outsole.
The release is highly limited, with only 1994 pairs available to the public. Each pair is individually numbered from 1 to 1994. Head to Reebok.com to secure yourself a pair when they drop, March 22.
