Vans are an all-time classic, but even classics deserve a bit of leveling up every now and then. This is why in 2003, Vans started Vault by Vans. The elevated sub-label takes archival silhouettes from its past and partners these with revered designers to add a bit of flair and a new energy to its pieces.

This month sees Vault by Vans reunite with MASTERMIND WORLD for an exclusive collection that not only features the brand’s signature checkerboard design but infuses a punk energy with the staple skulls and black and white motifs of Masaaki Homma, MASTERMIND WORLD’s founder.

Born in Japan in 1997, MASTERMIND WORLD is a mix of sport and street style, drawing inspiration from the gritty aesthetic of minimalist punk. This time around, Homma and Vans have not only created revamped versions of some of Vans’ most popular shoes, but some other pieces have been thrown into the melting pot.

From a skull-adorned hoodie and pillow to a silk slip dress and pajamas, the collection has something for everyone. The Sk8-Hi Bolt VLT LX and Old Skool Bolt VLT LX come in black/white colorways, made from Italian leather with an added premium suede quarter panel and custom MASTERMIND detailing on the heel.

That’s not just it for footwear, though. The Sk8-Hi Reissue VLT LX, Old Skool VLT LX, and Authentic VLT LX are also available featuring embroidery and MASTERMIND friction tape, with all the shoes finished off with a crystal clear waffle sole that subtly hides the classic checkerboard pattern we know and love.

The full Vault by Vans x MASTERMIND WORLD collection will be available from April 28 here and at select Vault by Vans and MASTERMIND WORLD stores —  including a bespoke shopping experience in the basement of the Vans Covent Garden London store on April 28.
