Double Tap to Zoom

Veilance has always occupied a quieter corner of the greater Arc’teryx universe. As the small luxury offshoot of the Canadian outdoor giant, it tends to move in stealth. The seasonal collections — a marriage of Arc'teryx's technical prowess with more refined silhouettes — are essentially the glamping equivalent of quiet luxury. Yet, for as impressive as its pieces might be, they’re no match for the cultural pull of something simple but grabby like the Arc'teryx deadbird beanie.

That’s part of the mainline outdoor label’s charm, though sometimes Veilance taps into that same covetable vein. Sometimes it also turns out a surprise accessory that makes the simplest object look like high luxury.

Case in point: its latest release is a deceptively simple stainless steel incense holder, stamped with the Veilance logo and given the most subtle bend in the metal.

It’s not even right to call it a product, because it’ll never actually go on sale (at least not until it hits resale markets). The incense holder is simply a “novelty gift” given away to the first customers to buy something at an upcoming Veilance x BEAMS event coinciding with the Japanese megaretailer’s 50th anniversary.

The pop-up's main event is a new half-zip wool sweater made with a techy 3D-knitting method, but it’s really the incense holder that has our eye — and not just because the steel is reflective.

Really, there’s nothing more quintessentially Veilance than quietly releasing a design object with barely more than a whisper.
