At a cost of $180 million, Luc Besson's cinematic adaptation of the Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets comic series did not come cheap, yet going by the otherworldly first trailer, it already looks like money very well spent.

Starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, the sci-fi opera follows the protagonists to the intergalactic city of Alpha; a vast metropolis comprised of various species from all four corners of the universe. Over time, the citizens of the planet have learned to unify their talents to work harmoniously, but as with most cosmic utopias, there are unseen forces at play eager to upset the status quo.

Soundtracked by The Beatles (which also does not come cheap), eagle-eyed viewers will also be able to spot Rihanna, who seemingly appears in a supporting role as some kind of shape-shifting magician, around the 1:20 mark.
