Michelle Williams, of Destiny's Child fame, stopped by CBS's daytime talk show The Talk for an incredibly open discussion on her past struggle with mental health. The singer decided it was time to bring the topic to light to "normalize this mental health discussion.” Watch her interview below.
Williams says that she was later able to assess that she had been struggling with depression since the age of 13, a condition that prevailed throughout her tenure with Destiny's Child. “For years, I’m in one of the top-selling female groups of all time suffering with depression,” she says.
She attempted to broach the subject with her manager at the time, Matthew Knowles, but little came of it. “It got really really bad... to the point of I was suicidal... I was to that place where it got so dark and heavy because sometimes you feel like ‘I’m the provider, I take care of people, I’m not supposed to be feeling this way—what do I do?’ I wanted out.”
