The story of On started when Olivier Bernhard, one of On's founders, came up with the idea to imitate the sensation of running on clouds — "I always felt there was room not for another running shoe but for a different running feel." Bernhard's first prototype was pieced together from bits of garden hose glued to running shoes. After presenting and consequently being rejected by Nike for his "Frankenstein" looking sample, Bernhard, determined to get his idea of "soft landing and explosive takeoff" off the ground, teamed up with friends David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti. The dynamic trio started the company in Zürich, Switzerland, in 2010; the rest is history.
