Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host had the Avengers cast read out a “kid-friendly” retelling of the film's brutal ending. As Kimmel himself notes in the video above, “While children love superheroes, I'm not so sure how they feel about intergalactic genocide.”

Thankfully, Kimmel had a copy of ’Twas the Mad Titan Thanos on hand and the Avengers assembled around a fireplace to read it.

Mark Ruffalo opens the recital, with Scarlett Johansson taking over, followed by Chris Hemsworth, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, and Chris Evans. The reading doesn't necessarily maintain its “kid-friendly” rating once our heroes start to insert their own views of what happened and the body part Thanos' chin resembles. Eventually, things descend into chaos as the cast members take issue with the rhyming of “Groot” with “soot.”

Finally, Ruffalo regains some semblance of order, closing with the line, “But the Avengers may have a few more last tricks. You can find out in theaters on April 2-6.”
