If you’d asked us a few years ago which sneakers brands we’d be watching with anticipation in 2023, we probably wouldn’t have said CAMPER. But, under the guidance of creative director Achilles Ion Gabriel, the Spanish brand’s experimental sub-label, CAMPERLAB, has released some of the most creative footwear around. We’re talking puffed-up loafers, distressed woven slides, and modular, deconstructable sneakers.

CAMPERLAB doesn’t shy away from boldly reimagining classic silhouettes and we’ve come to love its quirky aesthetic and playful interpretations. Continuing in this vein is brand’s latest release, the Tormenta, which drops on June 22 on the Highsnobiety shop and camper.com. A running shoe reworked in an offbeat way that few can master, the Tormenta features a warped outsole that wraps over the upper and creeps toward the curved lacing system, giving the shoe a fluid, organic feel.

As with previous collections, central to the shoe’s design is the use of innovative, alternative materials that are more sustainable than those typically used in sneaker production. The upper features the plant-based fiber Sorona as well as HyphaLite, a mushroom-derived regenerative compound, and plastic-free leather alternative MIRUM. Meanwhile, the sole is made from natural rubber, the lining from bamboo, and the laces from the wood-pulp-based fiber TENCEL.

If you’re after an eye-catching, futuristic sneaker for summer, look no further than the Tormenta. Shop the brown and beige colorways below, or head to camper.com for the full collection.
