The coronavirus has struck Italy this weekend. The virus outbreak hit major cities in Northern Italy, including Milan, which is currently wrapping up Fashion Week. According to CNN, Italy is suffering "the worst outbreak outside of Asia."

So far, Italy counts 130 confirmed cases of coronavirus and two related deaths. The current outbreak is so alarming that Giorgio Armani decided to have its fashion show behind closed doors.

Scheduled for 4 pm today, the show is being filmed inside of an empty theater and live-streamed on Armani's Instagram account. No press or buyers will be allowed inside. "This is a preventative measure decided by Mr. Armani to support national efforts in safeguarding public health," said Armani in the IG post below.

It's unclear whether more fashion shows will close their doors today. Meanwhile, upcoming Milan trade shows such as Micam and Mido have been postponed.

Italy's top football league, Serie A, has canceled today's matches taking place in Northern Italy. This has affected games between Inter Milan and Sampdoria, Atalanta and Sassuolo, and Hellas Verona and Cagliari.
