Facebook unveils a new platform for original shows on the world's largest social network with "Watch."
Comprised of shows made up of episodes – live or recorded – that follow a consistent theme or storyline, the platform is a great format if you want to share a video series, like a weekly cooking show, a daily vlog, or a set of videos with recurring characters or themes.
The new platform is intended for all creators and publishers, in hopes of building a community of passionate fans, and earn money for their work. With Facebook Live providing a background on jumpstarting "Watch," the company learned that people’s comments and reactions to a video are often as much a part of the experience as the video itself.
So when you watch a show, you can see comments and connect with friends and other viewers while watching---you can even participate in a dedicated Facebook Group for a particular show.
While the platform is still in its testing phase, for now, "Watch" will be available to a limited group of people in the U.S. on mobile, desktop, and TV apps, before it becomes widely available to more people in the U.S. in the coming weeks.
