Double Tap to Zoom

We've survived brat summer and are entering pumpkin spice and Red (Taylor's Version) season – I mean fall. Recent runway offerings in New York, London, and Milan, and Florence before, have gone to show that after months, if not years, of restrained minimalism and an appreciation for elevated simplicity, we're gradually approaching 2025 with an ache for clothes that have something more to say.

By that I certainly don't mean we're back to obnoxious logo bombing, but rather that we've come around to wanting a littler more glitz, a little more glam in our wardrobe – without, however, feeling as though we have to sacrifice aesthetic or qualitative longevity.

The virtual sales floor of Mr Porter, too, doubles down on previously alluded to observations, on both developments in footwear, and the state of luxury fashion as a whole: which is that the year's fall/winter trends are already dialing up the volume on the visually, materially, and technically interesting criteria of a garment, without, however, reinforcing unnecessarily trendy or pompous codes of dress.

Big, Bold, But Refined: The Year's Fall/Winter Trends

Oversized

Playing with proportions can drastically flip the script on familiar staples, and allows for pieces that remain universal and wearable without reading as easily replaceable. A pleated pant, a deconstructed bomber, a billowing v-neck like those below add dimension and shape to one's look without overpowering the wearer beneath it.

Dressed Up

Sparkles, sequins, explicitly evening-billed apparel or heels for men didn't feel at the top of anyone's mind for a hot minute. But after what must've functioned as something of a stylistic palette cleanser, a prolonged reign of quiet luxury has now – evidently – provoked in people an appetite for fun.

Timeless

To long for something more playful does not equal a sudden dislike of safe bets and classics. The two aren't mutually exclusive, nor do they appear ill-fitted in combination with each other. As a matter of fact, the current momentum backing a palpable but no less cautious return to more exciting fashions feels on a mission: to reinstate a sense of balance between the extremes we've been moving back and forth to and from.
