Just last month, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, revealed in an interview with Variety that the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones would not air until 2019. With fans expectantly disappointed, HBO had yet to speak on the season 8 premiere, until now, as the network has just confirmed that we will indeed have to wait until 2019 for the series finale.
Season 8 of Game of Thrones is currently in production, and you can look forward to longer episodes than normal, as previously reported. Filming is then expected to take place through this summer.
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are slated to both direct and write in the final GoT season, most notably the sendoff episode. Additional directors for season eight include David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik, while Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill will write.
And while we now know that season 8 won't arrive until 2019, HBO has yet to reveal a specific premiere date. As always, stay tuned for more.
