Levi’s® and Barbour Get Rugged in Milan
Tucked away in a sumptuous courtyard in Milan’s Brera district is Antonia, one of the city’s leading destinations for fashion curation. Menswear, womenswear, streetstyle, luxury you name it—the store has a reputation for collaborating with the world’s most stylish and forward thinking brands. On a crisp autumn night last week, Antonia hosted two titans of workwear, two brands that have come together to redefine rugged, outdoorsy design and peak functionality. Levi’s®, a name synonymous with denim, and Barbour, the British outerwear and lifestyle brand who have been contributing to rustic English culture since 1894, have joined forces to launch Levi’s® x Barbour, a fittingly tough-looking collection that marries form and function with the attention to detail you’d expect from both institutions.
As throngs of people milled about the store, listening to DJ Elbio Bonsaglio spin upbeat house tracks, several pieces caught the attention of the crowd. First off, for women, the Spey Wax Jacket with its brown cord collar, pocket flaps, and trucker-style cuffs and waistband was an immediate fave. Over on the menswear side, the Western-inspired Beadle jacket comes in two iterations: dark navy desert wax with black cord collar, and a full denim workwear silhouette. All these pieces straddle the worlds of workwear and fashion; with embellishments like metal pins and badges, they give an elevated look to industrial-like style.
As if that wasn’t enough jackets, the Type II Waxed Jacket comes in Barbour’s signature olive green colorway, whereas the Type II Denim Jacket makes use of Levi’s® tried-and-true indigo wash denim. The texture of Levis® x Barbour’s waxed cotton needs to be felt to be believed—slick and durable, it’s both a weatherproof must-have and a singular fashion statement.
It wouldn’t be Levi’s® x Barbour without trousers, and people were bopping out of the changing rooms all evening in the 578 Pleated Corduroys and 568 Loose, with their lived-in design and intricate illustration details, depicting the industries that Levi’s® and Barbour started in, mining and fishing respectively. Like all Levi’s® and Barbour trousers, they looked like they would age beautifully, make a statement, and still last a lifetime. One the more casual side, Levi’s® x Barbour the Hoodie, Graphic Tee, and Waxed Cap rounded out the collection, giving the consumer the opportunity to mix and match pieces to either dress up or dress down their workwear look.
Originating on either side of the Atlantic, and finding common ground among the fashion-savvy Milanese crowd, Levi’s® and Barbour are a match made in pleated cord, waxed cotton, heavy-duty denim heaven.
