Editor's Notes: Launched last season with a selection of GORE-TEX-covered, Vibram-soled bangers that can easily endure a trip up any mountain trail (and probably a nuclear apocalypse), the Trailgrip is Moncler's new uber-functional hiking sneaker.
The bulky shoe is one of the many outdoor-ready footwear models released recently from the Italian label, and it has been given a summer-oriented update for the SS23 season. This means that breathable mesh and lightweight fabrics have been deployed on the upper for those heading outdoors in the heat.
The updates don't end with the materials, though. The Trailgip has also gotten decisively more colorful since we last saw it, with a new range of bright hues including a purple with pink and aqua blue accents as well as a full neon-green variation.
But fear not fans of no-nonsense, GORE-TEX footwear, for the Trailgrip GTX is also back with its waterproof membrane and monochrome colorways.
A shiny Moncler puffer jacket has long been considered among the top-rated functional outerwear styles for outdoor exploration, but the luxury label now has more sneakers than ever to match its coveted jackets.
This is partly thanks to its head of footwear design, Nathan VanHook, who specializes in durable outdoor styles and has a CV that includes designing the Air Yeezy 2 while working at Nike. Since the Trailgrip's designer joined the brand, it has also introduced highly-futuristic rain boots and the coziest of puffy trail shoes.
And while there are some rumors around VanHook's future movements, it looks like we aren't going to wave goodbye to the Trailgrip any time soon as Salehe Bembury officially previewed a collaboration on the model at the brand's recent bumper fashion week event.
So, here's to more utility-driven sneakers from Moncler, giving hiking footwear heavyweights some serious competition.
