Editor's Notes: At this point, the New Balance 990 can be considered a modern classic. Turn back the clock a few years and the dad sneaker explosion which cemented the brand's place in the land of hyped sneakers was spearheaded by the model, but its newest release is a far cry from those grey pairs that we have come to love.

Since Teddy Santis has filled the role of creative director for New Balance's Made In USA and UK lines, he has given them a new lease of life and the 990 in particular has been treated to the Aimé Leon Dore founder's nack for producing instant-cop colorways.

Two updated versions of the 990 which originally hit the market as a running sneaker back in 1982, the v2 and v3, have been given a tonal red update by the designer. A colorway that sticks out from Santis' neutral-hued variations of the model that have previously dropped.

When the shoe originally dropped in the 80s it made headlines for being the first sneaker with a three-figure price tag (oh, how times have changed), and the Made In USA versions remain on the pricier side of the label's models. But in return, the shoe is decked out in pig suede, has an upgraded sockliner for added comfort, and a minimum of 70% of its domestic value is made in America.

Releasing on July 28, if these two sneakers have the same fate as previous 990 releases then they will not be sticking around on shelves for long, so be sure to set an alarm for the drop.
