Model: Shox R4
Key Features: According to Nike: “Many qualities of the re-release are loyal to the original Nike Shox R4 — the platform and double-lasted synthetic upper return, as does the shoe’s original launch colors, metallic detailing and reflective elements. The covered midsole blends together these elements in one unified look, allowing wearers to feel that they have a piece of the future on their feet — just as they did 18 years ago.”
Release Date: Originally released October 4
Price: €130 (approximately $150)
Editor’s Notes: Nike has been hinting at a larger comeback for its Shox line for quite some time. The technology, which debuted in the early ’00s, quickly went out of fashion after its initial release and has been pretty much abandoned since. Now, with the help of five select retailers (listed above), The Swoosh is bringing back its Nike Shox R4 sneaker.
The Nike Shox R4 dropped at the five retailers listed above on October 4. While most have only made the stock available in-store, Voo still has a full size run online.
Berlin-based retailer Voo — one of the retail launch partners — previewed the Nike Shox R4 in the audio-visual lookbook below. The video, which was directed by Divina Kuan, is Voo’s interpretation of how Nike Shox (and the R4 in particular) fit in today’s world of style.
With chunky, retro-runners enjoying a new wave of popularity — both among Fashion Week regulars and everyday sneakerheads — it seems the time is right for a Shox revival.
