Editor’s Notes: An OFF-WHITE x Nike Air Max 97 with a pink gradient sole was unveiled recently as part of Serena Williams’ Virgil Abloh-designed “QUEEN” collection.

While OFF-WHITE had already teased black and gray versions of its collaborative Air Max 97, this was the first we’d seen of Abloh and Nike’s most daring colorway yet.

The sneaker is part of a collection that comprises three sneakers as well as tennis apparel. The other sneakers in the pack are the similarly colored Nike Blazer Mid and Williams’ “Queen” NikeCourt Flare 2 PE.

Select styles from the collection will launch exclusively in NYC, although Nike has not announced exactly when or how the drop will go down.

Previously, a release in conjunction with the US Open, which started on August 27, was believed to be a possibility. This has now been confirmed, following the surprise-drop via Nike’s SNKRS app after the tennis star’s opening US Open straight-sets victory against Poland's Magda Linette.

Fans of the sneaker were able to unlock the kicks by heading to the “Behind the Design” page for the collaboration, where rubbing/swiping on the branding on one of the photos would unlock access to the sneaker.

As for a wider release, continue to check back for more updates.
