New York City’s Pace Prints will be showcasing the newest works of Chicago-born artist Nina Chanel Abney, via print media at Art Basel Hong Kong 2019. The African American contemporary artist is known for creating vivid paintings that touch on themes of gender, race, politics and pop culture.
The featured works consists of Abney’s signature visual language of symbols and stylized figures, with the post above somewhat spotlighting a wrestling match between two races while also featuring classic pricing ads from supermarkets, alongside Coca-Cola branding.
According to Pace Prints, these life-size works on paper carry “bold and unapologetic messages aimed at starting timely conversations centered on social consciousness.”
The works in print media will be available in Art Basel Hong Kong at Pace Prints’ booth 1B38 from March 29 until March 31. Pace Prints will also exhibit new works by other artists such as Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh, Mary Corse, Leonardo Drew, Carmen Herrera, Loie Hollowell, Shara Hughes, Li Songsong, Adam Pendleton and Peter Saul.
