While Hollywood has historically been dominated by males, namely in terms of pay, 2016 has bucked said trend, as none other than Scarlett Johansson has been dubbed the year's highest-grossing actor, after previously being recognized as the highest-grossing actress ever.

Johannson earned a cool $1.2 billion USD throughout 2016, in large part thanks to her role as Black Widow in Captain America: Civil War, as well as another portrayal in Hail, Caesar!.

Marvel also ushered another pair of its famed actors to this year's top 10 list, with Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) coming in at a tie for second ($1.15 billion USD).

The top five is then rounded out by two more females, Margot Robbie ($1.1 billion USD) and Amy Adams ($1.04 billion USD).

Felicity Jones also joins the trio of ladies in this year's list, earning $805 million USD.
