At this point, there’s a publicly recognized national day for everything, so why not find a way to celebrate nocturnal activity? In honor of Sleep Awareness Week, we’ve picked 20 items that will deepen the impact of all your snoozing (or lack thereof).
According to a review from the U.S. National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, the changes in sleep culture have “produced massive social and economic shifts, and additionally has had marked public health consequences.” Insufficient sleep is a global issue that has a huge impact on both the body and mind and can lead to a variety of physical, mental, and emotional disorders that disrupt your quality of life.
Some researchers view sleep deficiency as a public health epidemic despite the lack of recognition because it’s a common problem across demographics. It can cause heightened anxiety, depression, frustration and irritability along with a decrease in motivation and attention. External problems that could arise include “cardiovascular morbidity, increased chances of diabetes mellitus, obesity, derailment of cognitive functions, vehicular accidents, and increased accidents at workplaces.”
As far as we can tell, hibernation season is still in session, so we might as well make the most of it. While this guide won’t cure all of your problems in bed, there is a high chance that it will make your slumber even cozier, and the effort is what counts the most. Scroll down for the full list.
Slip Beauty Sleep Collection
In this house, we only sleep on silk… Or at least in my case, I solemnly swear by silk pillow cases. The benefits of sleeping on silk include temperature regulation, hair protection (no frizz or tangles), skin hydration, and wrinkle prevention. With this set you get a pillow case and an eye mask for a premium experience.
Kin Euphorics Dream Light
This potion of adaptogens, nootropics, and botanics pairs perfectly with a hot latte of your choice before bed. I’m late to the party, but am currently having a mushroom moment, so I appreciate the inclusion of reishi here. There are also micro-doses of melatonin, L-theanine and passionflower to increase the production of GABA along with L-tryptophan to support serotonin levels and sleep regulation. Digestion was also taken into account with oak, clove, ginger, cinnamon, and chili. Bottom’s up for deep sleep!
Remrise Peace of Mind
I highly recommend taking the quiz before placing an order so you can figure out which product will suit your needs, but this product has helped me tremendously. All of the formulas are plant-based that combine herbs, minerals, and amino acids from Chinese and Western medicine. I suffer from anxiety, and since I started using Peace of Mind about two weeks ago I have noticed that I have an easier time falling asleep. I even dream again which was very unexpected, but a pleasant surprise so I guess that it is positively impacting my state of mind during rest mode!
Vitruvi Stone Diffuser
Essential oil diffusers are a wonderful addition to any bedroom. Treat this device as your resident vibe check. The power of aromatherapy is real. To set the mood for bedtime, pour in some drops of organic lavender, bergamot, geranium, citrus, jasmine, chamomile, rose, valerian, sandalwood or cedarwood oil. (The brand recently added a special Nightcap blend.)
Sleeper Love Me Tender Silk Pajama Set
Because who doesn’t want to feel like a dream? If I could, I would only sleep in silk satin.
Follain Ultra Hydrating Mask
Whenever I use this vegan mask, I wake up the next day with the most dewy face. The ingredients list includes phospholipids, sodium hyaluronate, mango seed butter, and white peony extract. Follain is fully dedicated to clean beauty so this item is 100% non-toxic, non-GMO, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and fragrance-free. This product is recommended for people with combination, dry, and normal skin types.
Dr. Barbara Sturm Night Serum
Even when you’re not awake, it’s important to protect the body from inflammation. This serum boosts the skin’s natural regeneration and rejuvenation process of producing collagen and growth hormones with purslane, hyaluronic acid, beta-glucan, plankton, cotton thistle extract, senna alata extract, tropical reed extract, and poria cocos extract.
The Nue Co. Natural Sleep Kit
This is one of my favorite products to travel with, especially since I always have a difficult time falling asleep on planes (or any other moving vehicle). While the drops don’t completely knock me out, they do help me reach a state where I can comfortably doze off for an hour or two on a long flight and feel less cranky when I’m awakened by the flight attendant for my complementary meal. Magnesium is proven to be an effective method for stress reduction and mood stabilization by increasing gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the body which aids in relaxation. I usually spritz this on my lower arms and feet every night for extra support.
Sasawashi Room Shoes
I don’t know why living in a shoe-free home is not the universal standard, but house shoes are an essential piece of that puzzle. Maybe slippers aren’t your thing, but this pair is 100 percent worth copping. Not only is the washi fabric breathable, but the antibacterial kumazasa extract absorbs moisture and odors. Your feet have never known better.
Bodha Cashmere Aromatherapy Eye Pillow
Everyone could benefit from a few minutes of meditation at any point in the day, but especially after work. I stare at a screen for at least 75 percent of my day, so I find the gentle weight of this pillow soothing as it rests on top of my eyes when I am getting ready for bed. The case is made out of Mongolian cashmere and is filled with lavender, chamomile, buckwheat, and cotton.
Parachute Gauze Pajama Set
Unisex pajamas, we love to see it! This minimal set is woven with 100% cotton in a “two-ply gauze fabrication” that supports an easy, breezy, beautiful night’s sleep. With three colors to choose from, you really can’t go wrong.
Moon Juice Magnesi-Om Berry De-Stressing Drink
This powder is so pretty that you won’t not want to drink it! I typically add one tablespoon to a glass of water before bed on nights when I’m feeling on edge and need to calm down. Each batch contains three essential magnesiums, L-theanine, citric acid, monk fruit extract, and beetroot juice.
Buffy Cloud Comforter
I’ve been sleeping with this hypoallergenic comforter for about two years now, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I didn’t know how much of a difference eucalyptus could make in terms of bedding material, but this is the fabric of the future. (I’m also a fan of their eucalyptus sheets.) The best part is that the comforter is light enough to be used all year round so you’ll never want to take it off even during the summertime.
Bed Threads Flax Linen Bedding Set
These French flax linen sheets were made with sleepers that run hot in mind. If duvet covers are not your thing, then this set is perfect for you. The color palette is also gorgeous—there are 16 shades to choose from!
Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask
Eyes are the window to the soul, so under no circumstance should you skip them in your night routine! These treatment sheets are infused with retinol and formulated with extracts of chlorella, mukurossi, and gambir to reduce wrinkles.
LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask
This overnight balm moisturizes your lips with vitamin C, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and minerals.
Yogasleep Dohm Natural Sound Machine
I don’t actually have one of these in my home, but I feel like it would probably help since I’m a big fan of sound baths. Noise pollution is an environmental disturbance that threatens our sanity. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that has the ability to impair our overall state of well-being, motivation, blood pressure, and catecholamine hormone secretion.
House of Waris Night of Nights
This beverage is ideal for someone who isn’t necessarily sleep deprived but enjoys winding down by curling up in bed with a cup of tea and a good book. A few sips in and you’ll feel like the receiver of a warm, gentle hug from the inside. The formula consists of chamomile, rose, linden, peppermint, licorice, orange blossom, lemon verbana, passionflower, and jujube seed.
Olly Sleep Vitamin Gummies
I’m always cautious in regards to consuming vitamin gummies because the dosage is usually pretty low, but these natural supplements are a great alternative if you are in-between refills and want to try something low cost. The ingredients include melatonin, L-theanine, chamomile, lemon balm and passionflower.
Thrive Global Phone Bed Charging Station
Because your phone needs a good night’s reset too!
