With golf’s fourth and final major of the 2019 season taking place in Northern Ireland, Nike turns to Stone Island to prepare for the brutal weather conditions athletes might face. The challenging 18 hole course is filled with rolling sand dunes, cool temperatures, and bursts of rain, so performance and weather-resistance outwear has become a priority.
“Knowing that the conditions during the tournament can change quickly, and can be quite challenging, we wanted to focus on outerwear,” says Kelly Tweeden, VP and Creative Director for Nike Golf, Nike Tennis and Nike Skateboarding. “As experts in creating product that performs as well as it looks, Stone Island was a natural partner in finding the best solutions.”
The Stone Island x Nike Golf collaboration features two pieces – a jacket and a crew neck shirt. There are two colorways of the jacket (grey and blue) and three of the crew neck (grey, blue and yellow).
Thanks to Italian brand’s expertise in fabric innovation, both items are performance ready as well as weather-resistant. Adaptive fibers help increase breathability and lock in warmth, while each piece is built on a pattern that optimizes range of motion through a swing and incorporates golf-specific utility pockets for balls, tees and gloves. It’s a perfect blend of style and performance.
“Working on garments with Nike Golf gave us the opportunity to create true technical and performing pieces,” says Carlo Rivetti, Creative Director and Chairman of Stone Island. “It is the first time for Stone Island on the field of play, in one of the most noble sports in the world.”
The collection is set to debut during the golf tournament from July 18 through July 21, and will have a global release on July 25.
