While we’ve been busy wondering where hours of our life go every time we browse through our social media feed, legendary Swiss watch manufacturer Zenith Watches was hard at work on creating the next generation of luxury timepieces with the Defy El Primero 21.

The model is a testament to the history of the century-and-a-half-old Swiss company, combining their original Defy timepiece from 1971 with the 1969 El Primero movement, which was the first chronograph with an automated column-wheel mechanism that allowed for it to keep time to 1/10th of a second. If that benchmark was impressive by timekeeping standards decades ago, the Defy El Primero 21’s ascent to the top of 21st-century timepieces was enough to blow the mind of even the most casual watch enthusiast.

Taking a quantum leap from 1/10th of a second to 1/100th of a second timekeeping, Zenith’s watch has become a benchmark for precision and quality. The Defy El Primero 21 also comes wrapped in a 44-mm titanium middle casing with oversized stepped chronograph buttons and two brushed titanium models with the option of open or closed dials. For the timepiece enthusiasts ready to flex on their holiday dinner guests, the model also comes in futuristic shades of titanium, black ceramic, and rose gold.

With all of that technology packed into the titanium case, it’s a fitting timepiece to showcase Zenith’s 153-year history while still providing a flex-worthy piece of 21st-century technology. It’s no wonder that this year, Swizz Beatz teamed up with Zenith for two super-limited special editions of the watch, releasing 25 white ceramic interpretations and only five white gold iterations set with 288 round diamonds.
