Before Dover Street Market’s temporary closure in anticipation of their new London location, we spent a day with David Owen, who runs the concept store’s bookstore within the store. IDEA (formerly IDEA Books) is known for their impeccable curation of timeless tomes through the decades, with a strong focus on fashion and the arts. Limited and foreign editions, as well as niche items with small print runs make up the bulk of the store’s inventory.

We spent a day with David as he showed us around London – from starting his day in the city’s historic Barbican estate to hunting for rare books at markets, and finally heading into the store to run the day to day. He also weighs in on how Instagram has helped IDEA’s success, and their recent move into publishing.

IDEA’s new space will open later this month within Dover Street Market’s new store, while its other locations in DSMNY and Comme des Garçons’ Trading Museum in Paris are still open. You can also view key titles from their selection 24 hours a day via Instagram.

Be sure to check out IDEA’s recent collaboration book with Vetements.
